mommom

This blog is more of a 'journal' than anything else to me. I'm a loser and often go back and read my own blog and reflect. LOL. I'm nuts.

I wanted to mark this past weekend though, before all of the sickness hoopla happened, because Kenzie said her first word. Kenzie said 'mommom.' She was getting laid down for a diaper change, which she never really enjoys, and so she was fussing. Out came the grunts and gripes and then came mommom. She reached her little arms out to me. I laughed and smiled and said yeah mommom. I looked at Joel and we both smiled assuming that it was a fluke and mommom just came out between blabideeblabberboomomom. But then she kept fussing and did it 2 more times. 3 times my people, is no accident. :) She did it again on Sunday night and it was just music to my ears. Yay for wordage!

Outside of that...hmmm...not much new! I hooked my old cell phone memory card up to the computer to look at the old pics on there and there were a bunch of Kenzie as a newbie. Where did that baby go? It's like two different people! Crazy! So for tonight we'll have some new and some old pics....here we go...
Now... (pardon the uber crappy picture quality...i'm a slacker and the camera batteries died and i haven't replaced them...so camera phone is as good as it gets...)
In her Auntie onesie...

Sitting in a restaurant highchair for the first time...

And this one was just taken tonight...i keep trying to put Kenzie down into the crawling position so help her learn how...but this is what i got...

The girl refuses to bend her legs, so she just sat there with her bottom up in the air until she got mad and cried for me to fix it. LOL

And now for the flashback...

one oh two!

So last night marked the worst day of my life as a parent to date so far. I know that there will be many more and for the first horrible immediate care visit, i think 6.5 mos. is not doing so bad. Joel and I noticed that Kenxie had a slight skin irritation or diaper rash on Sunday morning but didn't really think too much of it. She did have some diarrhea though and to make sure that there was no poop stuck anywhere i gave her a morning bath. I didn't want to wipe her and irritate her even more. After her bath she seemed to be doing fine. She took her regular morning nap before we left and was in great spirits at church. She was standing and playing and talking and having a great time. She had eaten breakfast and then had a bottle while in the nursery. So took another nap in nursery which wasn't too odd and when she woke up i noticed that one cheek was a little red. Nothing odd again because she had slept on that cheek. A little while after she woke up she was sitting on my lap and just seemed very :::blah:::. She wasn't playing or smiling just very complacent. I then noticed that her other cheek was red and decided to take her temperature. On a whim i took out the thermometer and popped it into her baby bum and WAM. 102.0. I grabbed her up and gave her some Tylenol immediately. Luckily church got out at that very same moment and Joel walked in. I told him in a panic that we needed to go and NOW. We rushed home and took her temp again and it was 101.7 so not very improved. Joel's mom came over and coked us lunch and i put Kenzie down for a nap to see if the Tylenol would work it's magic. About an hour later she woke up a little so i grabbed her out of bed and she was at 101.1. We were holding her and she was just barely waking up at all. Very lethargic and fussy when she was awake. So i called our 24 hr nurse line that our insurance provides and they said to go ahead and bring her to a doctor. We went to the immediate care clinic with her and got her checked out and they gave her some Motrin right away. Then the hell started. They didn't see any obvious signs of an ear infection or anything else so they had to draw blood and get a urine sample. I knew this would be bad. They tried to draw blood once from her arm while i was in the room with Kenzie but couldn't find her vein and i was already balling me eyes out to see Kenzie in pain. Then i had to leave the room and Joel stayed with her to helpcalm her and hold her down, They tried Kenzie's other arm i guess and still couldn't find anything, all the while my sweet baby girl was SCREAMING. Then i guess they tried the first arm again still to no avail. By this time i walked in and grabbed Kenzie and said ok let's take a break and let Kenzie cool off and calm down. She was in such a fit that her whole body was red, and with her high fever already i didn't want her getting worse. So after a few mins they decided to go ahead and do the catheter and try to get urine so they could test that. So again, more screaming and crying, more beat red baby and more bawling mommy. I cried likek i have not cried in a long long time. You can't even begin to understand the pain in your heart knowing that your baby is in so much pain and there is nothing that you can do about it. You can't explain that it needs to be done to get her better. You can't hold her hand and tell her to just breathe through it. All you can do is let it get done and then hold her like there is no tomorrow. After the catheter i said enough and they ran the urine to see if there was anything there. While they were doing that Kenzie fell asleep on my chest and got about a 30 min. nap. THANK GOD! I was praying so hard that she had a UTI just to avoid more attempts at blood drawing. A few mins later they came back saying her urine was infected....woohoo!! So then they had to poke her one more time and gave her an antibiotic shot. We had to wait around for 15 mins or so to make sure that she had no reaction tot he meds, got a script, and then headed home. We all got ice cream on the way home and i had a MooLatte. Kenzie got to lick the whipped cream off the top. :) She was feeling so much better after the ordeal and i was thrilled. She is now her perfect self and after a morning followup with her doctor she is on an antibiotic med for a week 2x a day and motrin if the fever returns. She got a little pink bandaid on her leg from the shot...it's so cute. Her poor arms have 3 little bruises on them though. :( My heart hurt for her but i knew it had to be done. Luckily it's all over now and the meds should take care of the UTI entirely. My instincts were right from first thing that morning. When i first saw the red skin around her girly 'peepee' i though hmm....UTI maybe? Anyways...she's playing happily on the floor now and Joel and I both took the day off work to be with her and make sure she stayed ok. Well now i'm starting to fight either a cold or some serious allergies so i think we'll go take a nap now. Signing out!

Confession...

Forgive me readers for i have 'sinned'...it's been 9 days since my last post....

We haven't had anything very exciting happen so i haven't posted because who wants to read a blog about someone's basic everyday life? Psssshh that's ridiculous. LOL

SO since the 4th of July weekend i've worked, relaxed, and worked again.
Highlights....Kenzie is an ambi-roller and can now roll from her back to belly, and belly to back! YAY! She has also been sitting up all by herself for a little while now but i don't think i've mentioned that. It was such a gradual thing because she could sit up on her own but often fell over...well now she's pretty steady and if she does fall over she can just move herself around to 'fix it.' She is working on crawling but so far right now she just kinda lays on her belly and pushes her chest up off the floor with her arms and then turns around in circles. The knees haven't done anything yet. When i do try to position her knees she just tries to stand up, LOL. She is still sleeping through the night but we are working on shifting the bedtime and wake-up times. I'm keeping her up later and trying to keep her in bed until at least 6am instead of 4:45-5am.
As for Joel and I...we are doing well and trying to stick to our newly formed budget. It's hard to enforce it upon myself because i feel like if we have money...i can spend it and then i end up draining it to nothing, which is never good. So i'm working on that. Joel is keeping a tight reign on me and learning how to say no to these 'big blues.' That's his weakness. :)

This coming weekend will be a long past due one. As of last weekend i have started having short Fridays at work where i don't have to be in until 9am, and leave at 12, which is awesome. So whenever i get home on Friday we have some grocery shopping to do heavy duty! We are going to SAMS, Aldi, and then Walmart so hopefully we can get the best deals on everything. We have finally started shopping for 2 weeks at a time instead of going shopping every week. That was getting old. Plus we are buying dog food and 'new butt's' (diapers) in bulk. Speaking of which...am i a bad person for not wanting to get a store brand diaper? I don't know why but i just like Huggies! LOL. I can't bring myself to get anything else because what if i spend $8 on a small pack of a generic and then they don't work at all? I've only saved $1 VS the Huggies and if they leak or don't' work then i've wasted $8 and i'd have to buy 8 more packs of Huggies to make up the difference know what i mean? I dunno i just think we should stick with what works if it works for us and we can afford it. Anywho....off topic....
Saturday we're planning a nice day out, just the 3 of us. No other family or friends...just us. We'll hit up a mall and walk around, maybe grab some lunch...just enjoy being a family. We go out all the time it seems but since Kenzie is around now we spend a lot more time with family. It's great and all and i love seeing everyone interact with Kenzie but sometimes i just want it to be us. So Saturday is our day. Our local 4H also has a little fair set up so we may stop by that in the evening when it cools down to let Kenzie see the lights (she loves lights) and eat some good ole' fashioned American fair food. Nothing beats funnel cake and a corn dog and cotton candy, LOL. Nothing beats it. Well.....ok maybe i won't eat all of that. :)

I also wanted to share a blog that i have been linked to by my fabulous friend Vanessa....well 2 blogs actually! First off...her blog. Vanessa got married last year in October and since then has become a master of the kitchen. She was gifted a Kitchenaid standing mixer from her hubby and since then has been whipping up marvelous masterpieces or goodies and meals. Her recipes are super yummy and her creations are super cute!

Another blog that she linked me to is one of two parents who have just given birth to triplets, 15 weeks early. They are about 2 weeks old now and doing as well as can be expected. As a fellow new parent i can't imagine the hardships that they are going through right now. I'm sure they would appreciate your prayers and words of encouragement.

anywho...i'm gonna sign out for the night....goodnight and have a good weekend. (yes i know it's only Weds....but not much longer now!)

4th of July and a long weekend...

So this past weekend turned out to be a lot of fun, and we accomplished a lot! Let's see....where to begin...
Thursday i got off of work at 1:00 and met up with my MIL and her sister and ate lunch, then went shopping around WalMart for the paint to do our living room and a few odds and ends. We were planning on having a party at our Pastor's house for the 4th and swimming so i bought Kenzie a little pool float that was really cute. Then we headed for home and saw Joel for a bit, and then the painting began. On Thursday night we got all of the trimming and most of the painting done on about 2.5 walls around the windows and doors and fireplace area. The paint went on really great and we only needed one coat! wooohooo! Then i went to bed early at like 9:00 or so so i could wake up early and finish painting. Well Kenzie woke up early too and had no mind to let me put her down AT ALL so i ended up just playing with her all morning on Friday. Once Joel got up Kenzie was still just not herself and acting really fussy so we took turns watching her and painting. We got most of it done when Joel's aunt came over with a surprise lunch for us and she watched Kenzie so we could finish up. BIG help! After the painting was done and the room put back together we relaxed for a little while and then got ready to head over to the 'Ranch Party.' We got there around 6 or so and there were already some people there doing litle fireworks and such. Talked and hung out until nearly Kenzie's bedtime and then took her to Grandma's for a bit. (by the way, Kenzie was TOTALLY un-phased by the LOUD fireworks....funny) By the time i got back the bigger fireworks were about ready. 'The Ranch' is our friend's house in the middle of podunk where we can all pretty much be as loud as we want....good thing because they had made a canon and were shooting off gun powder. MAN that thing was loud. The fireworks display was AWESOME and lasted forever. They did a good show! Picked Kenzie back up and headed for home after a little bonfire time.
Saturday rolled around and we had no real plans since ouir Pastor's party was cancelled on account of rain. I had planned to return Kenzie's float since we didn't need it anymore and when i showed it to my MIL she said that she thought there was a recall on those. So i took it to WALMART and sure enough! the day after i bought it they were recalled because the straps where the baby's legs go between can break and the baby can fall into the water!! Praise GOD we never used the thing! Anyways we went and did some WALMART grocery shopping and then back to the house for a family get together. We did kabobs on the grill and all kinds of sides. It was yummy and fun.
Sunday we went to church with some of our friends. They have started going to church in the past few months and wanted us to see where they went. It was a MEGA church which Joel and I are not used to and don't really prefer. We like our small church where everyone knows everybody. I prefer to not be directed to a parking spot by a guy with orange paddles. LOL. Anyways, they had a guest speaker, Max Lucado and it was a good message. I didn't want to leave Kenzie in a nursery of people i didn't know, plus she had had a MILD fever that morning at like 99.6 so i kept her and had to go into the cry room about 1/2 way through. Sunday afternoon we relaxed and had our friends over for lunch and that was about it.
So now that you know my entire weekend update....I'm off today and enjoying the extra time with the lil' one. I had by far my WORST mommy moment to date last night. Joel had gone to take a nap in our room and Kenzie was down for her nap. I was watching tv and dozed off to sleep. The monitor was on, and loud so i could hear when she woke up, but apparently for the first time EVER, i didn't. I finally woke up to her SCREAMING crying. I ran into her room and her eyes were full of tears, her sheet soaked, and she was on her belly trying to roll back over but couldn't because of her sleep positioner. I picked her up and she was just in a fit. Her diaper was full so i went to lay her down to change her and she just SCREAMED again. So i just held on to her and comforted her for about 10 mins. Is still don't know how long she was awake but i feel absolutely AWFUL about it. Anyways.....moving on...she forgave me and we had a good long talk about it last night, LOL. Baby talk that is :)
Kenzie has officially moved up to sitting in high chairs at restaurants now. CRAZY huh? She likes to drink out of a straw if you fill it up and then release it into her mouth. She loves to play with food too so i figured it was time.
We have also moved up to size 3 diapers, and though they are big on her, size two was too small. I can't believe how fast she is growing up. It feels like just yesterday that we were buying little bitty 40 packs of newborn diapers. Now we're buying huge boxes of size 3's!!
Well i should get back to her now...i think the entertainment value of the jumparoo has worn off. LOL

Call me Beethoven...

I love her little fingers :)

The pics is fuzzy but here she is on the 4th in her USofA garb :)
