16 down, 24 to go

So I had my 16 week appt today and all was great, super, splendid! The baby's heartbeat was super easy to find and nice and strong. Hearing that little :::thump thump thump::: will never get old. I gained 4 pounds so it's nice to see that i'm finally starting to put on some weight to match my baby bumpage. On the one bad side they did detect that i was getting a UTI, but it's so early that i didn't even know it yet so i'm just glad that they caught it and hopefully i can avoid any symptoms by taking the meds early.
There is a test now that i am faced with, the alphafeto-protein test....that joel and i haven't decided on yet. It's a blood test run on me that can detect if the baby is more prone to or has downs syndrome or spina bifida, + a few other problems. There is no harm to the baby or anything, unlike the nuchal translucency test, so at first i was ok with it. But the more i think about it...the more i think it's just another test that i don't really need. We had already decided early on not to run any of the crazy tests that are dangerous at all or poke our baby or anything. But with this, it's just hard to decide. If something were found to be wrong, how would we react then? Do we even want to know? Sometimes there are false positives on tests, and that would put a damper on the excitement of having our child!? Plus if something were found to possibly be wrong, what other tests would we be approached with? It seems better to just avoid the test, but we are going to pray about it and sleep on it to see what we, and God decide is best for us and our little bundle of baby.
So all in all it was a good day and a good appt. Our BIG ultrasound is scheduled for August 29th too so we just can't wait for that!!! yay!!!!
